Both are cellulose-based, both are soft, and both end up in premium masks. The difference shows up in how they behave once soaked.
Cupro
Cuprammonium rayon has a rounder, finer filament, so the fabric feels silkier and clings to the face with almost no lifting at the jawline. It also drapes into the eye and mouth cut-outs cleanly. The trade-off is cost and a shorter, more delicate supply chain.
Spunlace
Hydroentangled nonwoven is stronger, cheaper and available in a much wider range of weights. Modern fine-denier spunlace closes most of the hand-feel gap, and liner-free constructions remove the pearl film entirely.
Choosing
- Treatment masks where fit is the story – cupro or fine microfiber.
- Daily masks at volume – spunlace.
- Testing both? Ask for the same weight and compare retention on your own essence.
